3dcircularprinting requires smart design skills. Non-planar makes it possible to further develop poor – waste based – resources into nature friendly products for the built environment. After the initial start with the students of Robotlab, Omlab teamed up with designer Pierre Kauter (CRD+A).
Period: midst of 2022
Rhino and Grasshopper are essential digital tools to enhance the application possibilities of circular materials, such as ours at Omlab. In collaboration with Pierre Kauter’s CRD+A practice we are now able to print objects defined by non-planar layers for a new aesthetic experience.
The professional experience he has in computational design combined with his studies in Architecture and Building Technology are essential for our collaboration. We are proud to see our research being now recognized. This testprint below is part of the Gucci material library.

Non-planar testprint Omlab x Pierre Kauter
In Omlab’s design practice, non-planar printing is now part of the way we design. Slowly but gradually you will recognise this in our design research and products like the biodegradable swallow’s nest (end of ’22).
